PowerCranks as a rehabilitation tool
If you are trying to get back to "normal" functioning after injury or surgery or if you have some special lower extremity rehab needs (e.g. cerebral palsy or stroke) PowerCranks might offer substantial benefit to you. Of course, what they can or cannot do will depend upon your specific needs and circumstances.
The main outcome that most see after PowerCranks use in rehabilitation is improved balance both right/left and fore/aft in the lower extremities over traditional rehab techniques. Improved balance should make the user less prone to a new injury. Other outcome improvements involve almost no loss in conditioning during the rehab period and improvement in technique or form that again will make the athlete less prone to another new injury.

“We have mainly used the PowerCranks bikes with our female middle / long distance runners who were either injured at the time or are injury prone and looking for a good way to supplement their training with cross training.”
Kevin Jermyn, Duke University Track & Field Coach
" I think they're great for recruiting hamstrings in my post-op ACL patients, and I like using them during bike fittings to illustrate proper spinning."

"I began using Powercranks in 2001 as a rehab tool and after trying to resolve an Illiacus/Psoas strain that just would not heal and strengthen with regular rehab methods. I noticed significant improvements in pedaling mechanics, strength and power. I am convinced that Powercranks work and am glad I can recommend them to clients."
Coach Rob Swan

MY left foot has had major reconstructive surgery (a repair of the posterior tibialis tendon) AS WELL AS FOREFOOT RECONSTRCTION three times, most recently 3 years ago. As I pedal the bike I can feel all of the alignment in the left leg improving....amazing. That is also the leg that I had shreddded parts of my semitendinosis and semimembranosis, which also are really responding to the one leg at a time....no cheating with the powercranks. My left foot has more motion in it then I can remember since my injury 23 yeaars ago this week.....the ability not to allow cheating and to balance the body with the cranks is truly what I need.
